Slipping: Skate’s Impact on Egypt

Egypt has one skateboard shop, Skate Impact. As one of the only shops in the Arab world (outside of Israel) it draws a crowd of passionate young people that would be on the fringe in the West, never mind Cairo. What seems like a timeless tail  of fighting against mainstream conformity, familiar for any skater, is made more interesting in the context of a region reacting to the social and political changes demanded by youth and justice movements.

Brett Wiese Saunders, went to Cairo as a freelance photographer last fall and amongst the tumult of a revolution met skateboarders Omar and Cherif, who started Skate Impact shop. This meeting become a documentary project that Saunders is trying to fund on Kickstarter, with 17 Days to go it needs a little push to get reach a very achievable goal.  There are some great premiums including 1 of 20 limited Cliche skate decks.
