NAME: Mike “Sticky” Duthler
LOCATION: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
OCCUPATION: Skateboard filmer, photographer, and creator for hire. I also run Anklepants Skate Zine, Symptom Skateboards (art project), and am in the process of finishing a full-length skate video.
Where do you like skating? Anywhere my wheels will roll, but I most enjoy transitions (bowls and minis), banks, and death-defying drops.
Why did you go Veg? I was unhealthy as a teenager and never enjoyed eating meat, so I cut that out of my diet while on a snowboarding trip around 2002. A few years later, after getting into animal rights and fitness, I cut out all animal products from my diet. The dairy industry is just as bad, if not worse, than the meat industry. I have also recently stopped consuming GMO foods (and products) due to their dangerous side-effects and the dangerous corporations that create them.
What is your favorite thing to skate and why? Transitions. Mini ramps, bowls, quarter-pipes, spines, launch ramps etc. I love them all. However, my favorite thing to do on a skateboard is ride off a building and not die.
What shoe are you skating in now? I’ve been skating the Fallen “Patriot” shoes (black-ops) for several years. They are my favorite skate shoes of all time. A big thanks to Vegan Skate Blog for helping us get our kicks!
Say whatever you want about skating Veg. If you eat better (vegan) you’ll feel better (physically and mentally). If you feel better you’ll skate better. If you skate better you’ll feel better. Living vegan is one of the best things you can do for yourself (as long as you avoid junk food). I suggest watching the film “Forks Over Knives” to see all the incredible health facts about the plant-based diet. Put down your gun, turn off your TV, and pick up a skateboard. Destroy spots, not lives.

Thanks! That bowl is actually in Iowa City which is about a 20 minute drive from Cedar Rapids if anyone really want to come skate it. That town is great though and seems to be a bit more vegan friendly than CR. The Anklepants blog should be back up soon and a new issue is coming out. This blog rules!
I would really love to update this. Although still vegan, I have changed a bit since.
