Vegetable Shredder – Sean

Sean Conley Fakie Ollie Vegan skateboarderNAME: Sean Conley

LOCATION: Nashville, Tennessee

OCCUPATION: high school culinary arts teacher/musician/photographer/cinematographer/skateboarder

Where do you like skating? streets, new cities, foreign countries.

Why did you go Veg? I went vegetarian my junior year of high school, in 2003. I originally went vegetarian because I didn’t like meat to begin with and didn’t agree with the thought of having to kill something to eat. I was also heavily influenced by the one and only Ed Templeton. I saw an interview with him and immediately felt connected and that I was not alone in my choices. It was really easy for me to stop eating meat and and I of course researched and learned of the countless benefits of a meat free diet after that. Even when I was vegetarian I didn’t wear suede or leather, or drink milk. I toured europe in summer 2009 with one of my bands and most of my friends over there were already vegan and I ate vegan the whole summer. It was a no-brainer for me to continue this when I got home, and that was about 3 years ago. I love it more and more. I feel healthier, and I’m in the best shape of my life. I cook all the time and now that I teach cooking I can share my knowledge with my students.

What is your favorite thing to skate and why? TWo things. A really nice ledge; because I can skate it for hours and never get bored. And two, the streets. It’s vague but I love to just skate through a city and explore, using my skateboard as transportation. there is no other feeling like bombing hills with no clear direction of where you’re going.

What shoe are you skating in now? The Emerica Francis mid. Black/tan with synthetic suede. Great shoe with lots of ankle support and great board feel. With Ed Templeton behind emerica, you are always guaranteed synthetic colorways.

Or just say whatever you want about skating Veg… I teach culinary arts to 8th-12th graders and I am trying to show them the value of a meat free lifestyle. I won’t say it isn’t hard to do but I feel that I am doing my part and at least showing that their are healthy and cruelty-free ways of living. I honestly wished I would have gone meat free at a younger age, I think it is one of the best decisions you can make and leads to an extremely healthy lifestyle and good choices. It is very important to know why and what you are putting into your body. I also want to give props for this blog and support this cause. It has been a challenge to find vegan shoes over the years and this has made things easier. Cheers.

I really have to thank Sean . Not only for this rad contribution to the Vegetable Shredder but for his words of support, good company, and the excellent work he is doing in his day job, teaching juvenile delinquents how to cook for themselves. You are a renaissance man Sean. One more snap shot. Not a skate photo, or a food photo, but some tricky photography. Check out Sean’s blog, seanconley.tk and sleepinghouse.tk/

This guy rules. I’d love to skate with this man. By the way, any chance my “veg shredder” page will be posted soon? I’d like to show off with it and support this blog (and believe me, I’ve been spreading the word).

  2. Thank you for the kind words kerry.
