Papa PoopSplat’s Pesto

Papa Poopsplat's Pesto Vegan Pesto Dairy Free Pesto

Matt Soria, (Poopsplat) shared with us over Twitter a recipe for Vegan Pesto! Gotta love the name and detailing of that package too! As we move into the summer months, remember, basil is expensive at the store but its also a tenacious weed. Go get a nice sized basil plant and you can have Pesto once a week. If you live in Chicago, do what I do and take a walk in Grant Park. (ITS FULL OF BASIL & MINT)
Go check Matts recipe for Papa PoopSplat’s Dairy Free Pesto on his site!

Vegetable Shredder – Jordan Eden

Jordan Eden Veg ShredderNAME: Jordan Eden

LOCATION: Perth, Western Australia

OCCUPATION: Student filmmaker

Where do you like skating? Street spots and parks around Perth.

Why did you go Veg? I read a blog post by a vegan in the local hardcore scene here in Perth. Every word he wrote made sense and I finally realized that my actions were not in line with my beliefs. I decided that I could no longer live the life I was living if I was to set a positive example in this world.

What is your favorite thing to skate and why? I’ll skate anything with my friends. But some of the funnest skates I’ve had have been surfing sidewalks with my friends on homemade planks. I’m heavily inspired by 80s street style so I will happily skate a curb haha. If I can throw out a cheeky fastplant or boneless variation on something then I’m happy.

What shoe are you skating in now? Etnies Jameson Eco 2

Or just say whatever you want about skating Veg… This blog has been such a good read for the past couple of years. I would have never known the abundance of vegan skate shoes without it. Thanks!

PS. Check out my mates 60 – 80’s inspired company Blah Skateboards. And also check this straight edge vegan band from home called Truthseeker, they’ve only got one demo but their shows get crazy.

———————————————————————————————————– Jordan brings us some gnar on a tiny vintage-style deck on a sharp bank! Watch for that wheel bite on the return, Jordan!

Etnies Jefferson Second Look Review

Etnies Jefferson Vegan Skateboard ShoeThe Jefferson is one of Etnies newest models that was introduced for the Spring 2013 season. Its featured in both Etnies Vegan and Skate Collections. (Fitting for a review on VSB.) The Jefferson is low profile and slim, making it super comfortable to wear with full ankle exposure you get a real sense of freedom when moving around on the skateboard. The DTTF (Drop to the Floor) footbed makes for a great board feel and some nice impact protection too.Etnies Jefferson Vegan Skateboard ShoesAfter several weeks of skating the Jefferson, the bright greens have faded ever so slight and the ollie hole has peeped its ugly head.  However the comfort remains high on this slim cupsole and those toes have a good bit of life left in them.Etnies Jefferson Vegan Skateboard ShoesCloser inspection of the cap shows the reason for such a strong rounded toe. The Jefferson features a hard toe cap under the canvas. Not only is this hidden feature adding some skate life to the shoe, it also makes kickflips feel super smooth on the flick. Kiss those hot toes goodbye.Etnies Jefferson Vegan Skateboard ShoesThe cupsoles have no visible stitching around the toe. Its all just tucked down in there. You can see how the canvas over this area is woven into  the caps. While this area may wear pretty quickly, the caps themselves seem to be holding up well. This would also serve as an excellent surface for some shoegoo. Based off the comfort of the Jefferson, that would seem a pretty good route once the canvas has warn away. Etnies Jefferson Vegan Skateboard ShoesEtnies and Emerica seem to be using a new tread pattern on many of their shoes this season. In both the Jefferson and the Tempsters, small pyramid shapes have a larger open surface area then the past herringbone treads. From all accounts its still grippy and is holding up great. No flat spots yet!

The Jefferson has a great fit. The tongue and collar are padded so lightly that it feels like a slipper. Perhaps a turn off for some but it really does allow for a feeling of freedom. This is why so many skate shoes are going slim and Etnies has pulled it off well with the Jefferson.  What many of us would like to see is probably pretty obvious.  Synthetic-Nubuck or Synthetic-Suede on the toes at the very least would add even more skate life to a what is easily at the top of its category of slim skateshoes.  Lets do this Etnies!  While we wait, go check out a pair now…

Green sizes 5-14 (no 5.5) $64.99

east 72nd and down

Sean Conley (sleeping house and human drive prodcutions) brings us another artful cruise through the streets of NYC. Skateboarding in Manhattan truly is like no other place on earth. The congestion of humans and machines, the pavement warped in to tiny rip-curl like waves, and the jazz… (little known fact, an endless jazz loop plays for any skateboarder leisurely skating from the Upper East Side.)

St. Louis’s Kings Highway DIY PARK slated for Demolition

KHVT (Kings Highway Vigilante Transition) who are behind the DIY-Skatepark in St. Louis, MO just started a Kickstarter to fund a public park in the city.  Skateandannoy, posted earlier this week the project which tells of the impending demolition of the Kings Highway overpass, ensuring the inevitable demise of the park.  I skated the KH DIY-Park on a skate trip 2 years ago. It was super fun and I’m now planning my next trip to St. Louis to skate it one more time.   Give some support to this Kickstarter project and insure that the gateway to the west has a rad free park!
